Elizabeth Shane is Professor of Medicine, Associate Dean for Student Research, College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, and Attending Physician at Columbia University Medical Center.

Dr. Shane’s research focuses on various causes of and therapies for osteoporosis. She has a long record of uninterrupted federal R01 funding (NIH, FDA), held a K24 Mentoring Grant from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases for 10 years, and is currently Principal Investigator of several federal R01 grants. Also for the NIAMS, she has served on the Advisory Council, and as an ad hoc reviewer.

She has served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research and the Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism. For the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, she served on the Council, as Program Chair for the 2001 Annual Meeting, and as President in 2005–2006 and currently as Chair of the Ethics Advisory Committee. Dr. Shane has co-chaired three Task Forces for ASBMR; of particular relevance to this P2P conference are the ASBMR Task Forces on Osteonecrosis of the Jaw and both the 2010 and 2013 Task Forces on Atypical Femur Fractures.
