Douglas Bauer, is Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology, and Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco. He also serves as Director of the UCSF Clinical and Translational K Scholars Program, and is an Executive Committee member for the San Francisco Coordinating Center. For over 10 years he was the Director of Research, UCSF Division of General Internal Medicine.

Dr. Bauer is a practicing general internist and clinical epidemiologist with active clinical research projects in several areas of aging, osteoporosis, and thyroid research, including risk factors, diagnostic tests, biomarkers, and treatments. 

He has authored or co-authored over 400 peer-reviewed publications, is Associate Editor for the Primer on Metabolic Bone Diseases and Disorders of Mineral Metabolism, and serves on the editorial board the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research. He is a standing member of the FDA Bone, Reproductive and Urologic Drugs Advisory Committee and a Trustee for National Osteoporosis Foundation, and he recently completed a 4-year term as a standing member of the Neurological, Aging and Musculoskeletal Epidemiology (NAME) NIH Study Section.
